I decided to attempt the no shampoo challenge and this week’s star ingredient is honey! I have been having hair ‘problems’ for a while now: it’s dry or oily, it won’t get clean or it comes out stripped and straw-like. I just can’t figure it out! My favorite, stand-by products from Shikai and Aubrey just up and stopped working and I was considering chopping it all off because having long hair was no longer enjoyable.
Then I read this article on honey washing (which I previously mentioned) on Free People’s blog and thought I’d challenge myself to go shampoo-free for a while. I’ve seen so many people stop using shampoo in the last two years and the consensus seems to be that it’s super oily for a while, but ultimately totally worth it.
Wash your hair with a mixture of 2 Tbs raw honey and some water. Condition with two drops avocado, jojoba or apricot kernel oil massaged into wet hair. I added a drop or two of rose-geranium essential oil to my bottle of apricot kernel oil because it smells incredible. (Two drops really is enough, it’s quite potent!) It’s all-purpose too: hair, face and body moisturizer all in-one. I’ve been using it on my body for a few months, so adding it to my hair care routine didn’t seem like much of a stretch.
Have you ever done a no-shampoo challenge or used honey as a hair wash? How did it go? I’m looking forward to trying some different products and home remedies and having healthier, cleaner hair from now on!
